Darkroom Practice

Research

Alin Ciortea

This was the first photographer I chose as my inspiration because for my project I would like to do street photography and I think this photographer captures "the streets" very well. What I like about these images is that they are simple but interesting at the same time. What I have chose to do is to carry my film camera around with me for a few days and try and capture images like these just around the streets of Leeds.

Paul Politis

This is the second photographer that I chose, and as I wanted to take photos around Leeds I thought that these images would be appropriate for my research as this photographer photographed New York. I love these images because I think the black and white makes it look quite moody and dull but the detail and height of the buildings makes them a set of really interesting and powerful photographs.

Philip Pankov

The final photographer that I chose for my inspiration. This photographer photographed Dublin at night time which I think looks really good as the water and sky in the images look really dark but then the bright lights stand out a lot which gives the images a sort of gloomy and creepy look. I especially like how the photographer included the reflections in the water in these photographs.

Scannography

To create these images I used a scanner and scanned whatever I thought looked good, then opened them on Photoshop and changed them all differently. I mostly changed the colors and curves.

Photograph Book

For my book of photographs I have chosen the theme of Cities which I am going to mix architecture photography and street photography. I have also chosen to take these photographs on my phone and give them and old film sort of effect by using filters on Instagram. The majority of my photos will be taken around Leeds but also where ever I travel to and decide to take photos of such as Bradford and Halifax.

These are some architecture images that inspired me for my book by a photographer called Berenice Abbott who photographed around New York.

These are some more images that inspired me for my book, by a photographer called John Goldsmith and these are street style photography which I think are really good because he captures the moment really well.

These are the final images I ended up using for my book:

Assignment - Documentary Part2

For my assignment I have chosen the subject "Leeds 2012." In that subject I chose to photograph the football culture in Leeds, such as; Elland Road the stadium, passionate fans of football, the police that are used for protection. What I am going to do is go photograph all the fans of Leeds UTD on a match day, all the merchandise that I see around Leeds such as stickers on cars, I will also go photograph the actual stadium and possibly inside also photographing the fans and match, lastly I have chosen to photograph my mum's boyfriend as he is a passionate fan of Leeds UTD and has many tattoos related to the football team. My photographs are going to include close-up shots as well as far out shots of the different things I have described above, I have chosen to shoot them in colour but will probably edit them to be in black and white and make them quite dark as the subject I have chose I think matches it.

These are some images by Paul Graham that I liked and thought related to the shoot that I have planned to do, here he has photographed several people watching the television. I think its quite interesting because it's an everyday average thing to do but hes taken some really nice photographs and thats what I'm trying to do by taking something that is normal to someone and try to create interesting photographs.
